Classes throughout the day, but PE is one of the classes, for three quarters of the year, with the remaining quarter being Health. No recess.

But wouldn’t it be better to transfer in 8th to get used to public school and catch up with math? I understand that public school is way ahead of private in math

We also experienced this. Normally it was the same Dept from year to year, so Social Sciences or Math.

Testing week was a nice break for my child because they felt like there were fewer administrators screaming at kids in the halls. It was calmer. (Mainly the 8th grade hallway.) Speaking from having one finished at Pyle, now in Whitman, and one still in Pyle. Mostly very good teachers, one a year doesn't click w our DCs.

Except for those with actual kids attending / recently attended. I believe you do have to live in the catchment area in order for that to happen. So, no, a lot of posters are genuine parents with genuine kids who go to or went to Pyle.

I wouldn't do this, to be honest. You're introducing an excess of transition when it's not needed. Even when transitions go well, they're a lot of work and mental energy. You're switching to a much bigger school, and you have to figure out where to go, who to ask for things, how past courses line up, etc. Whereas, you know how everything works at your current school. Even if your kid has a seamless switch to Pyle, he'll need to do it all over again in 9th grade. I would finish out the current school with his cohort, even if said cohort isn't great, make a clean break, and then do a full fresh start for high school.
