No, I think the PP just posted a list of just how many schools there are that you've never heard of. Both Hampshire and Bennington have some specific financial issues.

their website says 785 undergrad plus several MFA programs. I know their low-res writing MFA to be pretty good, but have no idea how many people are in it.
to answer an older question, Donna Tartt started at Ole Miss and transferred to Bennington. So she went there and I think The Secret History takes place in a Bennington-esque school. Bret Eston Ellis was her friend there and encouraged her to finish/publish The Secret History.
I'm in NYC and Sarah Lawrence and Bard are pretty popular. I can see those same kids being attracted to Bennington.

Based on what facts or factors ?
After 2025, the number of US high school grads will decline. If we experience a recession soon, many small private colleges will shut down.
Stupid list without accompanying facts or factors indicating financial distress.

Hampshire really should be thought of more as an educational experiment than a full-blown college, that is why--along with its location-- it will be relatively straightforward to merge with another and retain itself as a niche college within a college.
For some reason VT private schools have struggled--I think they tended to be unusually small and often are relatively recently founded compared to other US colleges. Marlboro College had 150 students, was founded in 1946.
Bennington College only has 660 students and was founded in 1932. They just don't have the historical assets/appreciation and size to withstand financial stresses. It's near impossible to run a modern college at this size--I think the minimum really should be 1200.

Nope. Marymount, Goucher, Patrick Henry, Washington College, McDaniel and Randolph Macon would all close first.
Hampshire College was scheduled to close down a few years ago. Wealthy alumni saved it at the last minute. Hampshire will be gone soon.
Bennington College considered closing down in 2019. Received loans to stay afloat (if I recall correctly).
Several Vermont schools are--and have been--experiencing severe financial challenges. Vermont Law School is one, and at least two others closed.

Honestly, there are 1000s more like this. Oxy and Bennington will survive. In fact, once those 20-50 ranked colleges get admissions rates in 10% range, I can see Bennington getting very solid indeed with the overflow.
+1 When people talk about the LACs in danger it is not likely the top 100 LACs (though they may experience temporary financial strains at times like any organization of course), it's these far more likely to be very tiny ones, niche-serving ones, or regional unranked institutions. Just because you haven't heard of a school doesn't mean that it's not doing strong work and known in its areas of strengths.

Bennington has a very arts focus and around 67% acceptance rate, not a very DMV obsessive's focus
Occidental has the United Nations internships and a 38% acceptance rate and is frequently discussed here. As is Trinity and Miami Ohio
Occidental is seriously struggling financially, and Miami OH has a much higher acceptance rate than it used to.
Occidental has a 300k per capita endowment. They are not struggling.
