Anonymous wrote:I stumbled upon Tutor Me Education when I was looking for a math tutor for my daughter. (I remembered seeing something about it in an email from the school.) My other two kids are in private school, and I've been paying $75 per hour for their tutoring, off an on over the years.
I was surprised to see that MCPS offered free tutoring services. I signed up my daughter. It has been great for the past few months for my daughter.
Earlier this week, our middle school (Westland MS in Bethesda) had a town hall with the B-CC High School principal. He responded to a parent question about the end of free tutoring. He said that the funding was pandemic-related, and also said that the people using the tutoring were often not the people for whom the tutoring was intended. (To my knowledge, MCPS did not put any restrictions on who could use the tutoring.) If there is some money in the budget, perhaps MCPS could make the free tutoring available going forward, but only for people who meet certain income requirements, or with serious academic needs (not just for those kids for whom it's a "nice to have.").

We are sad to hear about it. Our tutor has been a lifesaver. The company has also been g*d sent. They have been very communicative and my child has jumped grade levels. It looks like the district is still in potential talks to continue which is why we have been kept in the dark. Our tutor is a special education credentialed teacher who I am surprised to say is much more qualified and experienced than our current teacher. Fingers crossed they let it continue.
What makes you think they are still in potential talks or just a guess?
I connected with a director from the company and that was the information that was passed along.
On another note, teachers at our schools have confirmed students in the Tutor Me Education program making large strides in working with their tutors as compared to those who have not sought out the support. Looks like the data is really there and the program is making a big impact. Nice to see others having a similar experience. I wonder if they will submit that data to the district.

Despite the possibility of MCPS tutoring wrapping up at the end of May....
So are they negotiating... - I thought it was definitely wrapping up...
MCPS is currently evaluating the tutoring program - no final decision yet. Consider sending a letter to stakeholders (and also post here!) and explain how tutoring (FEV Tutor, Tutor Me Education, or MCPS online/in-person tutoring) helped (or didn't help) your child (ES, MS, or HS, with/without IEP) and why it should/shouldn't continue.
