This is an article about trying to trigger some legal problems for NATO, not for invading foreign territory. I don't see Soviet era nostalgia as much different from Americans wishing we still owned the Panama Canal. It was a mistake to give it up, but we're not going to re-conquer Panama anytime soon.
What I can find is that some time ago, apparently Putin offered to divide Ukraine with Poland. I guess that was just a long con?
Ukraine is a sovereign nation. And 3 years ago, people who were worried about Putin pushing further into Ukraine were told they were hysterical by Cons. If Russia succeeds in the invasion of the sovereign nation of the Ukraine, what stops him from continuing on to the next sovereign nation? Mainland Europe remembers WWII

Putin also said that whoever misses the USSR has no brain so there you have it.
If Putin was REALLY bent on restoring the USSR, he would have started with the Central Asia stans that are a) poor, b) wanted by no one, and c) would applaud joining Russia since most able-bodied men are there making money anyway. He has shown not the slightest interest.
