I saw the video of the CJA beating the woman in the car and I have zero empathy for him dying. Not celebrating his death but celebrating that this woman survived this animal. In my books, the person who knifed this man was a savior.

Despite what DC Govt believes and what the vast majority of this forum believe, when you report your car stolen to your insurance, you don't just end up with the same car delivered to your house ready to drive. You are beginning an odyssey of losing money, fighting insurance, looking for a car, dealing with the DMV and paying costs associated with all of this.

If you bought a 2022 car that was a year old in January for $30k,your insurance is going to give you some figure less than that minus your deductable and now you have to start looking for a car. You are losing money. And these equations never put a value on your time. Congratulations, you are supporting the DC stolen vehicle racket.

Another carjacking this morning at Michigan and N. Capitol, just down the road from children’s. 6:25am, so there’s no hour that is safe anymore.

I am a petite woman and a mom who lives in DC. I have no weapons. When a man tried to car jack a woman driver at my front door, I and another neighbor, a young man, ran out into our yards and screamed at the man to stop beating the driver. He wasnt armed thankfully but was ruthlessly punching her. He ran away, too fast for police and undetected by cameras. After police and came, she thanked me. She was in complete shock. She was an uber eats driver. I have been wanting to move for a while. We’ve lived in our house for nearly 20 years, and love our neighbors, but this is too much to ask. We law abiding citizens have to just bear it. We wont.

Seems like the police know why the guy who did the stabbing is (and they have his car). Hope they don't charge him with anything.

Vigilantism is really bad and it’s unfortunate that we are seeing it increase because people are losing faith.

That’s not vigilantism. That’s intervening to save another life.

Agree. He is a hero!

Assuming you have insurance.

Even if you have insurance, you won’t recover the full value.

I think you’ll find that many, many people would disagree with you. I’m a petite woman, so yes I’d probably give it up, but I also carry mace. Dh would absolutely fight. I don’t think we should allow criminal behavior to be rewarded. Also, cars are worth 25-50k. It’s not victimless even if I turn it over to insurance.

My friend had her car stolen off her driveway in VA suburbs. It was used in a crime and the perp lived in Maryland. Her car was impounded for months and months, she had to testify in Maryland and insurance wouldn’t pay for a rental car for that long. Her car insurance went up a lot too.

And the city of DC comes after you for any tickets the thief racks up.

Oftentimes, they will beat you just to get it - you don’t even have to resist. It’s a violent act, carjacking. Do you think the thief is asking politely?

My 70 year old mother drives with a large butcher knife next to her. When I saw it I asked her what it was for. She said, "protection."

Never. They're taking a Mace and then a knife right in the eye. Keep both in the side compartment.

I deleted threads in which the original posters were celebrating the death of the man. That is unseemly and not something that I am going to allow.

OP, that article probably has more details than anything else I have seen about this incident and I've been actively looking for more information.

Perhaps they shouldn’t celebrate that the guy actually died but I think it’s worth celebrating citizens standing up to the plague of violent crime in this city and intervening against this criminal

+100
How many videos have we seen that show someone being assaulted and people standing around watching or capturing it on their phones but nobody comes to the aid of the person?

Let's see what happens here. If helping will get someone jailed, more people will get the message to walk away and let the criminals continue their takeover.
