There was a big exodus from Upper El this year, although that doesn’t mean they will backfill for the younger grades.

Wow, why did that happen?

I'm sure there were some people that pulled Upper El kids because they were unhappy but most of the people I know who are leaving Upper El, are doing so because they got a spot at Latin or BASIS. For the families I am friends with, this was less about LAMB and more about Latin/BASIS.

It is absolutely a referendum on lamb to leave for basis or Latin. Neither has spanish (very telling- and many of the families who are leaving told me that their children’s spanish had deteriorated to the point where they decided to abandon spanish) and since dci at lamb is practically guaranteed, it is more of a question whether these kids want to waste 5th grade coloring and napping or if they want to go to a school that actually teaches math, for example.

Again I know many families happy with their teachers, but it should ring warning bells that so many upper el families left.

I had a single digit number last year and didn't get off the waitlist until 2 weeks before school started.

Not OP but following this thread because PK4 hasn’t really moved at all this year. Any hope for single digit waitlist number getting in or should I give up hope?

What’s your number? Yes, there will be movement but my guess is it won’t hit double digits until after school starts

Our number is in the 20s so it's a long shot that we'll get in, but I thought we'd see more movement by now based on historical data:

Kingsbury # of offers by August:
'22-'23: 16
'21-'22: 15

SD # of offers by August:
'22-'23: 14
'21-'22: 9

We've seen our number move only one spot so far which seems slow.

Please read thread above.

You’ll find so many defenders of lamb who rightly so see it as a great school. Which it is! Until grade 4. Then you might get lucky with a great teacher, but you’re more likely to see your kids test scores start to crater, no spanish being spoken, and a dismal parcc score. The ED that was just fired was content to let upper el suffer (she really hated upper el parents), but since she’s gone I guess there is a theoretical chance things will get better. By the way, upper elementary parents have been saying this all year and been ignored by parents of lower grades. I know that many of these families didn’t think it would get better and left when they had a chance.

Here is what is telling to me- many board members made damn sure to pull their kids before 5th grade.

I think it's a slow year across the board. Typically July is slow and late August a bit faster. But really it just depends what people ahead of you decide to do.

Based on experience- don’t check your waitlist numbers till July or August

Iiiinteresting. Thanks for the info! Fingers crossed we see some movement soon. So far I think we moved one place further down the list and then one place back up lol

Got it! Appreciate the insight. Thank you
