I refuse to cede that.
I also refuse to cede that. I'll add that I'm tired of my twitter-sheeple 'progressive' Dem white friends in the DC area that act aggrieved by displaying the US flag.
How about all your Black and Indigenous friends who don't like it?
PP you're trying to troll. My one 100% indigenous friend flies her own American flag on holidays, is as Dem as they come, and her dad is a combat vet. My black friends are a mix; they certainly throw and attend BBQs on the 4th and Memorial and Labor days -- I have to assume that if they were peeved about America and being American and symbols of America, they would not throw parties on holidays that celebrate and honor things American.
And for those people I don't know who "don't like 'it' " ? They're welcome to .... not fly an American flag at their residence! This is such a great country that we have such a range of options. Fly a flag, don't fly one ...
ok but so-called Columbus Day is racist as f**k.

Who do you think is asking you to cede anything? Some of you are so adversarial, it's really sad.
I'll answer this: my white self-appointed progressive Gen X friends, who are practicing proxy offense for the downtrodden people they've never actually invited into their homes.
By just assuming somebody's political affiliation they are practicing proxy offense?

Do you disagree with, or dislike the sentiment of those?
I find them mawkish and sententious.
Then I'd love to know what you think of the "In this house..." signs.
Oh they’re 100% acceptable, obvi. Not sententious AT ALL.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Depends on how many flags.
+1. An American flag? No, could be anybody. An American flag big enough to be at a car dealership off the highway, or multiple American flags? Probably a Republican, and also a bit of a nut.
I resent that the 1/6er types have appropriated the Gadsden flag, but yeah I assume those license plates all belong to Republicans at this point.

I am proud liberal with an American flag outside of my house because the American flag stands for the liberal values of equality, civil rights, freedom of religion, bodily rights, etc. that are lacking in many other countries.
Well, the problem is that for a lot of people in America, those values are not afforded to them. Maybe you look at a flag as a symbol of hope for change, but I see a flag as pride of a country the way it is. I am not proud of America. I wish I was, but I'm not.
And you don't need to be depressed about it. America has a long tradition of getting mad at the government and demanding better.
