I’d send a short apology text to the mom, have a talk with DS about appropriate language and do a slow fade from the friendship (because this will happen again; obviously the two boys have very different styles)

Why? Does that have an offensive origin too?
I mean, John Langdon Down didn't collaborate with the Nazis and identify children to send to murder camps, so prob it's ok to keep using that one.
