Then you are missing out on phenomenal sitters. I have two boys and used a make babysitter primarily for them. He was athletic and sksi on the honor roll. He wasn't primping, mooning over a girlfriend, talking on phone all the time.

He was babysitting and lawn work to buy his first car.

Both my boys tried to model him and so many of his good qualities trickled down to them. He was in such demand that I paid him well over prevailing wage.

Not hiring teen age boys to babysit is as prejudiced as not hiring an AA or Hispanic teen age girl.

We had a gay male babysitter in his early 20s in the last city we lived in. He was amazing with kids — always coming up with fun activities and games. He would cook for us too. I miss him!!!

My (gay) male best friend and I have been friends since we were 6. From like 12-17 we had a babysitting business where we came together. I was extremely mature, trustworthy, and experienced with kids. He was animated, fun, creative, and very athletic. We were like the dream team and made so much money for the 90s. I paid my entire room and board for 4 years of college with that money.

Our son babysat for older boys - 7 and 9 for a couple of years. Essentially he wore them out every day playing outside after school. It was a win-win-win, all three of them had fun outside, their parents were happy, I was happy, and my high schooler got paid

It’s a fact that a users are far more likely to be male (though of course most men and boys are not abusers!) in my opinion the risk isn’t worth it.

Not racist. This thread is stating that statistically men are more likely to abuse than women. In the same vein, young black men are more likely to commit a crime than a little old lady.

I was once given the following parenting advice by a child psychiatrist I knew socially “don’t leave your kids alone with teenage boys.” Seriously-that was his one piece of advice.

Most men on an airplane are not creeps. Men raising their hand, unprompted, to be seated next to the most vulnerable travelers, are more likely to be creeps. Most men in life are not predators of children. Men actively seeking to be alone with children are more likely to be predators.


Genuinely curious how many of those who molested children on planes were women and how many were men?

A female babysitter abused my husband. YMMV

Check the stats. Will never allow a teen boy or a man to care for my children. Why take that kind of risk?

I’m the person who posted about our male babysitter from church who molested my sister and l. I remember him calling my mom to say he was available for babysitting, and my mom deciding it would be fun to have a night out and taking him up on the offer. It wasn’t my parents looking for a babysitter, he was looking for kids to molest.

Of course not all men are pedos. But the ones calling to offer their services are way more likely to be pedos. Be smart and protect your kids.
