No longer than a weekend. I wouldn’t trust that an auto feeder wouldn’t fail.

We leave ours for only one night without a sitter.

I'm a pet sitter and the most common booking I get for cats is to visit for 40 minutes every other day. They almost all have automatic feeders for dry food and either multiple water bowls or an automated water dispenser. Most cats are fine with 48 hours between a litter box cleaning, but a lot of people have multiple boxes or one of the really fancy ones that rotates. I'm mostly there to provide stimulation/play time, give wet food or treats, scoop litter, and make sure everything is working.

Some people will do daily visits if they have a cat that needs medication, will eat all the food at once, or gets especially lonely and/or destructive.

We have the amazon blink cameras installed in multiple rooms.

We will leave our 2 healthy cats for 4 days (leaving Thurs AM and coming home Sunday PM). It's really only 2 whole days alone. If we're going to be gone longer than that we'll ask friends to check on them once or twice. For very long trips (7+ days) we'll get a cat sitter for every other day to give them wet food, scoop, and fresh water.

Regardless of whether they have a sitter or not we always fill and turn on the automatic feeder, give them multiple bowls of fresh water, and scoop all liter boxes. We also have cameras so we can check on them.

Some of us have cats that even when we are at home, like to be left alone.

+1 My cat is very social. And having had a cat that used to go outside the litter box whenever we went away, I don’t want that to happen again. Maybe I’d feel differently if she has a buddy, but she gets very lonely (and she’s the sweetest kitty in the world).
