I think it's a huge problem to let kids (or adults) use TikTok knowing the Chinese are designing algorithms to show you news and feed you information it wants you to see. U.S. social media algorithms turned many into idiots and likely amplified the wrong things and heightened social unrest, imagine if the algorithms were designed by an enemy of the country WHILE it accesses all your information. Its far more nefarious than Facebook or Instagram. Chinese people don't have similar access to social media.

I used to think Trumpies were the most ignorant uneducated people in the country but those following along with Congress on fearing Tik Tok are by far the most embarrassing.
Ask yourself why our government wants to only ban Tik tok and not any other social media platform.
because it's partly owned by the Chinese government?
This and a couple of other reasons. The fear that ByteDance is sharing US information with the Chinese government. The concern that while the Chinese gov't strictly controls how minors consume TikTok in China, it's largely unregulated here. The fact that tween/teen depression has skyrocketed with the rise of SM, as has been discussed at length in other DCUM threads.
I'm not A TikTok hater by means. It's entertainment and people can be creative and I like that. My tween/teen aren't "on" TikTok but they can watch it a bit on Youtube (which is ironically blocked in China). They also watch Youtube shorts so same/same.
Then if SM is so bad for teens why not get rid of Snap, IG, FB, Twitter, etc… why the focus on just Tik Tok? All the others have had severe data links, live killings, live assaults, deaths by challenges, etc… But nothing happens.
Because the US government wants control and make money off of it and they can’t. If you actually think they care about your kids by having these hearings, that is pretty sad. Do a slightly deeper dive sweetie.
There's been quite a bit of discussion about SM in general. Several states have put forth their own legislation. There have been long-standing concerns over TikTok specifically as well, that go back for several years for security reasons. Both things are true at the same time.
I don't know what you mean by "make money off of it." TikTok US does pay a lot in taxes to the US government.
Free stock options and payoffs.
That is what FB and Meta give our politicians
And they also give our info out. So does Amazon and Twitter (internationally owned as well)

NRA has paid them off and now so has Meta. Wake up and do your homework and stop being a puppet.
