I also think golf and tennis might be the way to go

Both of these sports require excellent hand/eye coordination, and golf isn't exactly known for its energy.

Agree with those who have suggested running. Ultimate frisbee is also super fun, and while I do think you need to be athletic to play, the general vibe around ultimate is more inclusive and relaxed, with a focus on being spirited and part of a team.

My kid hated team sports but loved DC Bouldering Project (in Eckington), inside climbing center without ropes on shorter walls. She is also now loving Tae Kwon Do. Lots of emphasis on kciking. She takes classes at NorthEast Tae Kwon Do in brookland. Its a workout! My daughter is 4th grade also

I also think golf and tennis might be the way to go. Horseback riding would be a great success, but I'm not sure how we swing it based on our location.

She does better with a structured outlet for her energy, but gives up easily with anything competitive. It will take some finessing, but I feel prepared with some ideas! Thank you!

I may have missed it - where in the area are you? There is a really nice inline staking program in DC is that is something your daughter might like

Michelle Obama made her kids do sports that they were not good at - teaches them life skills/grit. Make her do running or swimming for a two year commitment then reassess.

I suggest allstar cheer. They work with all ages and fitness levels. It's a great team building experience, fun, but still a good workout. Especially since she enjoyed gymnastics. Allstar cheer has tumbling. They have teams all over the country.

NP here. I was a high energy not athletic girl and I LOVED roller skating! She might really enjoy it.

I had a teen-like me, not athletic-who did fencing in HS and he enjoyed it. Plus it looked good on his college apps.

Tennis, swimming, or running all seem good options. All are life-long sports. Each can be approached as a single person sport. Girls on the Run might be worth exploring.

Diving is a natural fit for a kid that does gymnastics. Be aware that it is really, really, really hard, so if you have a kid that gives up quickly, it's not for them. OTOH, EVERYONE messes up ALL the time, so she won't stand out that way.

Cross country it is!
