Our Langley niece got into 4/5.


We're a Langley family that was 5/5 this year. Hearing good things from other families too, so there will be some tough decisions. We are very happy with admin's efforts on admissions; middle school leadership has been great and very well organized.

I'm so sorry, OP. Waitlists do move - especially if your current admin at a respected K-8 goes to bat for a child. Some advice - make sure your admin knows which school is your first choice. Let them know you'll take any of the 5, but ABC is your first choice. That does make a difference to the schools to which your DC applied. Also, don't bug your admin, but do periodically check in and ask for updates of what they've heard, what they think you/your DC should be doing to help, etc. Good luck!

I know very few private school parents who live in areas with crappy public schools. I myself prioritized K-8. We may apply to the two nearby Upper Schools for 9th but if we don’t get in I will def look at it as winning the lottery and simply add it to the inheritances.

I’m sorry, OP. Your HOS will definitely help place your child for next year. This happened in my DCs class to someone and they ended up at Madeira (applied after decisions came out), but had to board. HOS will work hard to find you a spot.


Sorry, but that’s also a nutty outcome. To end up boarding when you didn’t want to?


Well, I assume they had to PAY for boarding...

Yes! Sorry they are in a bad situation and no way are they going to get off 5 wait lists. They need to do whatever they can to get their kid into a school. Sorry but it’s reality. I’m guessing you’ve never been in that position.


Definitely would go about it in a different way. There is no scenario that I tell more than one school that I would definitely go there if we got in. It’s extraordinary to me that you are so focused on “the game” that you teaching your kids that lying is okay for things like school admission.

I’ve been in plenty of difficult situations - some with my kids, some about my kids and some having nothing to do with my kids. I’m pleased to say that I’ve never even thought about lying like that - and certainly not for something along the lines as private school admissions.

Two cycles ago kid was waitlisted at 3 of 5 schools and hated both schools he got into after visiting.

He did a very sincere follow up to two of the waitlisted schools and we asked two teachers who had not written recommendations to write letters.

He got an offer of admission to one of the schools and enrolled. It’s the best possible fit for him and I’m so glad it worked out. Especially since the offer came before we put a deposit down elsewhere.
