It’s insane people like this exist.
Simmer down. She's not sending her to a foreign country alone. She's sending her to a different line 2 feet away. What's wrong with you??
OP, I get you on the medical issues. I have a kid with one and get the ease of using precheck. I'd send the two girls to the regular line together.
You are vacationing together not going on a work trip, just stand in line together, it's not that big of a deal.
It's not about safety it's about having manners.
OP said she had a medical issue that is quicker to go through precheck with.
If you have a medical device that cannot go through the body scanner and you use precheck to avoid that, that's a good enough reason to separate. Otherwise you have to wait for a patdown and search of your devices.
OP ignore the harpies on here. Send the girls together. They will be fine. It's not like you won't be able to see them the entire time.
Bad advice unless you get the ok for this crazy plan from the girl's mom. I would be pretty mad if someone left my child that was a guest with them unaccompanied at the airport like this.
Your 14 year old can’t go through a line alone? You probably wouldn’t have agreed to the trip in the first place. 14 year olds don’t need to be in sight of an adult at all times.
Agree! My kid started flying alone at 5. 14 is plenty old enough to go thru security. 14 year olds are married and have babies in some parts of the world. Others go off to boarding school alone. Sheesh!
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Then send the girls together. Definitely not cool to have one go through precheck and the other not.
+1 this.
Anonymous wrote:No, you don't leave someone else's 14 year old alone in a security line when you've accepted responsibility for her. JFC
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Should be fine. DS flew today from BWI with no pre check and said security completely empty virtually no line for anyone.
iCloud to BWI all the time and the security there sucks sometimes you get lucky, but in general it’s pretty BWI sucks. It’s mine boggling Nick TSA can’t staff properly. It’s not like it’s a surprise that a certain number of people show up in a given time period. and they also have a pretty good idea of what security checkpoint they’re going through.

I'm trying to avoid going through regular security because of some medical issues that always slow things down. Can I send the friend through regular security unaccompanied? Will she need to present ID?

Not PP, but it's basic courtesy. If I'm the adult in charge of a minor guest, I do not leave them to deal with an unfamiliar line in an airport. If I can't accompany them, I get someone else to do so: my own kid.
It's a point of etiquette.

I MIGHT decide it is fine to send my own 14 year old alone in the airport but I can’t fathom taking responsibility for someone else’s and then sending them off alone without their parent ok’ing it. It’s not like they are walking down the airport hall to grab a bite - it’s the most important step of the airport process.
If the girls parent trusts OP to take their daughter on a trip, she is trusting her to make certain decisions. However they do it they will never even be out of each others site. It is less risky (to me) then sending friend to the restroom alone. I am not sure what the risk is? Friend forgot about a water bottle and has to talk to TSA person. 14 year old can do that.

Anonymous wrote:Have your DD and the friend flown frequently before? Are they familiar with going through TSA?
If so, send your daughter and friend together, just b/c it's boring to wait in line alone. I have 12 year olds, and we have flown a ton, and I would have no issue with them going through security alone while I waited on the other side if it was necessary.
If they haven't flown a lot, then you all go through regular security together.
