I have brothers. Their friends are around. We hang out at the lake, water ski, are active. As women, why do we accept wearing traditionally designed women's bathing suits? And showing so much?

Not doing it. Swim shorts and a tee for me.

I do the board shorts and a tankini top too. I have swim suit bottoms and I am much more comfortable in board shorts or swim shorts.

Bare Necessities or Athleta with the underwire. Not cheap though.

You can get a lot of new Athleta for much less on eBay!

There is no cause to be mean like that. Be a decent human.

I have several suits and absolutely love this one - it gives me a waist I don't really have!

A) the suits don’t fit in some practical way (like the girls are falling out, it’s riding up, etc)
B) you don’t think the suits are flattering and you’re unhappy with how you look so don’t want to go swim
C) you’re worried that the suits are unflattering and other people will notice and be upset or judgmental

This is not a trick question, I think the three things have different solutions.

I don't mean to be mean, but you do understand no one is looking at you, judging you, or cares what you look like on the beach or at the pool, right? You are your own worst critic. No one else notices.

And I sincerely don't say that to mean. I say it as a helpful reminder.

I wish this were true, but it isn’t entirely. I don’t care, but I absolutely notice.

Yeah, this is my biggest issue with swimsuits. Lands end has some with underwire and d cup sizing (I don’t think they’re actually for d cups, I just think they know if they market it as F cup sizing people will be horrified and not buy them).

When you buy the swimsuit, it should be a little too tight. That will go a long way. Then always rinse it after the pool. They still only last one summer for me though.

Lane Bryant can be great for this. They have build in bras. I usually do a lane bryant top with landsend bottoms.

Anonymous wrote:One more Lands End vote here! I wouldn’t wear any of their regular clothes, just not my style, but I love the swimsuits.

I’m 5’4” and size 10 with a lot of weight in my middle, and I find tankinis are not a good look on me because the bottoms roll down, and the tops creep up, and my belly fat shows (they are easier to wear than a one piece when you need the bathroom, though!). I prefer one piece suits with a lot of ruching, and thicker arms/straps so pinches of fat aren’t so obvious.

Here’s an example of a swimsuit style I like, and so many brands make a version of it: https://www.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/lauren-ralph-lauren-beach-club-ruffled-one-piece-swimsuit?ID=3924703&pla_country=US&cm_mmc=Google-PLA-ADC-_-GS_Local+Only-_-All+Products-_-195576000629-_-go_cmp-325403191_adg-23120909431_ad-80153669791_pla-429517230383_dev-m_ext-_prd-195576000629&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD0PCJR6D0OFWQd90Ctiel4BcsCXb&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx6D5tI20hQMVak1HAR3c6QmKEAQYBCABEgLXn_D_BwE

Also, I have a loose cotton voile cover up with sleeves that comes to about mid thigh, and I wear it over my swimsuit at all times except when I am getting in the water.

NP here, and I like the JCrew/JCrew factory version of this same style suit (as well as their other one-pieces with ruching).
