DP here. Its pretty unusual on a workday for someone with children. No need for the "wow."

Our garbage collected comes at 6am Mondays and Thursdays and makes all kinds of noise. I've asked repeatedly for them to wait until 7am but they don't care. Our HOA hires them or I'd switch companies.

To answer the OP, no I wouldn't answer the door. I'm packing lunches and finishing breakfast. Ain't nobody got time for that.


Asking why someone is asleep at 8AM is definitely worth a 'wow, what a stupid question'. Even if it's 'unusual' for someone with kids, it's not uncommon. Have you never had a sick kid that was up during the night and you're both sleeping? Have you never had a baby whose schedule had them sleeping at 8AM and you're sleeping as well? Have you never known someone who works a late shift and doesn't get up until later?

Of course, why OP was in bed at 8AM doesn't matter at all. For people who are up at that time, it's usually a busy time and having someone unexpectedly come to the door at that hour is inconvenient.

My guess is a contractor and his client. How well do you know your neighbors?

We got a series of 3-4 weird pre-printed notes one year from “Betty”. No return address or phone number. The note suggested stopping by so she could share some important news. We assumed it was missionary activity. Then one day, we discovered our habitual street parking spots covered by a dumpster. “Betty” was our neighbor. She had started a 12 week renovation. It was a long three months.

I generally sleep until 10ish. Also empty nest. I find it so amusing that some of these posters can't envision a world that doesn't operate like theirs.

No kids and workday starts at 9. 8am is my typical wake-up time.

Kids are infants or toddlers and had a rough night OR
Kids are teens and get themselves off to school
