So if they scored a 90 and pass adv on the SOL they can appeal. Anything less than a 90, most middle schools won’t budge. I have a couple of stydents who scored in the high 80’s but get all 4’s. Unfortunately, they are probably stuck taking 7H next year. I will say this. Parents need to think towards high school when making a decision.
Do you mean the four credit requirement?
No, they mean a 4 on the report card. ES kids in FCPS are graded on a scale of 1-4 with a 4 being the highest.
The poster is saying that kids with 3's on their report cards should not take Algebra 1 H in 7th grade regardless of their IAAT or SOL scores because a kid with 3's on their report card has areas that they have not mastered in math and will likely struggle with Algebra Honors in 7th grade.

Thank you, this is helpful. I have a kid who’s on a mission to take algebra, and I’ve been a little concerned that it might be too much given the rest of her schedule. I’ll ask her teacher, but it sounds like it might be fine based on what you say about grades/score.

When we went to our MS orientation/tour, the math teacher there actually said she'd prefer kids hold off on Algebra until 8th.
NP here in Marshall pyramid - just got the letter in the mail. 98%. Which is slightly better than his older sibling, who got 97%. Both kids are STEM oriented, and both took/will take Math 8 Honors next year. My now freshman said his peers that are in Algebra 2 Honors are struggling, whereas he is having a fairly easy go in Geometry Honors. As a STEM major, I wanted my kids to get a firm math foundation before college and saw no reason for them to push ahead. They have years of math classes in the future.
I’m confused. Do students take math 7 honors or math 8 honors in 7th if they are not taking Algebra I? I thought advanced math in 6th was covering topics of math 7 honors?
If they don't take Alegbra 1 HN in 7th grade, they will take Math 7 HNs. This is essentially 8th grade math. In 8th grade they will take Algebra I HNs.

My DC who just got a 95, didn't do well as my older child who got a 98%. The older child, breezed through Algebra 1 HN/Geometry HN with As. DC is now taking Aegbra 2/Trig and it is a lot of work and definitely harder. DC is working their but off to maintain a B+. My DC also knows kids that are getting Cs/Ds. Seeing this is making me re-evaluate whether or not I need to push DC2 to take Algebra 1 next year. Jumping 1 year ahead may be enough.

Laurel Ridge scores arrived in mail today. 95th. Kid said it was easy. I’m wondering about whether this is the right path for them. I’m mildly surprised.
