Omg. I grew up in Bethesda. I just looked at a map and it turns out that which I always thought was McLean is actually Lyon Village and if I had tried to put Tyson’s Corner on a map I would have guessed way, way south of where it actually is. It’s wild what your brain builds when you just learn how to get places on roads but don’t ever look at a map, lol.

Anyway it’s all the same OP don’t worry about it. I like Bethesda better because that’s where I lived. Most people want to be near family or a job or a school. You can just pick a place if none of that matters. Visit both and find a house. No biggie.

Arlington to avoid the residents of Bethesda and Mclean.

If you want urban Bethesda, if you want suburb McLean.

It has a very small downtown, not as big as Bethesda. It has a few restaurants, but not as much as other nearby towns. You can drive to the Tysons area in about 5 or 10 minutes. The PP is right that the older residents are blocking any improvements to the downtown. They don’t want McLean to become a “destination” that would increase traffic.

DP but who cares, they both have low crime and are perfectly safe. You’ll be fine. It’s really unhealthy to fixate on this stuff.

I’m not a criminal expert, but I do listen to a lot of murder podcasts. So I can assure you that if you live in Bethesda or McLean, what you need to look out for most is your spouse taking out life insurance policies on you. Another factor could be if you start an affair with a crazy person. But you can get dumped in the river from either side so I don’t think OP can solve this problem by choosing Bethesda or McLean, unfortunately.

Not sure. But McLean does not have the beggars that Bethesda has.

If McLean can finally get the Metro, they can finally build up the downtown.

Seems the older generation does not want McLean to become a "destination" (especially considering the traffic Maryland brings to Tysons), and they work hard to distinguish McLean from Tysons.

I don't think this should matter for the OP but I have one kid and I would definitely have this on my mind if we were having to move to another state for work. If we decide to have another child, there are dozens of nightmare scenarios happening to women RIGHT NOW in states with abortion bans. Remember the story about the woman who had to wait for her discharge to turn rancid before she could have a non-viable pregnancy terminated? I also have my own beliefs about DNA screening and I don't want some yahoo in the state legislature involved in that. Sure, I could fly to another state. But there's always a risk that you will accidentally become the poster child of whatever. God forbid I don't screen my OB well enough and they call a whackadoo Sheriff who calls a whackadoo judge and now there's some injunction and my privacy and my family are at risk.

So no, I do not have abortions scheduled (haha so cute! you're funny) but it's super relevant.

They're pretty similar, don't overthink it. Just pick a school or a commute or whatever and go for it.
