Yes. The security guards aren't doing anything, and even if they catch the kids, there are no consequences. So, if you want real "teeth" as a PP stated, then you need SROs to sweep the bathrooms. That is the only way to stop these kids - fear of arrest because they don't care if they get suspended or have detention.

Let's just go ahead and combine the prison board and the school board, for greater efficiency.

what's your solution? Give them a hug and tell them to go to class?

Obviously those are the only two possible options.

According to the ^PP that was the solution they took from people's post about having SROs.

People in general, including kids, are less likely to do bad things in the presence of cops. Kids don't care about security guards.

Why do you care if these kids get arrested? I don't care at all what happens to those kids in particular, I just want the bathrooms open and available for the kids who need it. So an adult walking in there and saying go back to class is sufficient, but they actually have to DO that consistently.

I want them gone from my kids' school. Why do my kids have to suffer not being able to use the bathroom without feeling anxious because some kids can't follow the rules and not do bad sh1t on school grounds? If they want to do drugs, don't come to school. School is for learning, not babysitting.

Well since rampant drug dealing is a felony sounds like a job for the police.

A few years back, my DD (who had health issues requiring bathroom access) had a teacher who decided too many students were going to the bathroom during the class and stopped giving passes to the bathroom. I had her doctor write a note to the school, and my child was allowed bathroom access as needed. Obviously kids (especially girls) need access to a bathroom. Maybe you could get doctor’s notes making this request and if the school gets enough notes, they may have to change their policy.

Meanwhile, if smoking/vaping in the bathroom is a problem, why don’t they station teachers, security guards, or other personnel in there during passing periods, or have them randomly patrol the bathrooms, and also install detectors.

LOL I mean, yeah. Obviously. And that's why the climate today is way worse than in the '90s and before. Four out of the 5 incidents I cited involved guns and fentanyl. The only one that didn't were the B-CC girls who passed out due to alcohol, not fentanyl.

But the point is that it's not a specifically MCPS issue. There have always been fights in school. There have always been drugs in schools, and in school bathrooms. Now that we're swimming in guns and fentanyl, they're in the schools too. MCPS has to deal with the consequences of the guns and fentanyl without being able to do anything about the causes of the guns and fentanyl.
