Right. The person asked for "predictable, but fun" and I think it's fair for the person to point out that between the sweet parts in Lessons in Chemistry are some pretty dark scenes. You have to admit the rape scene was startling and her stabbing the guy was shocking.

Rape is always horrifying but the stabbing was wish fulfillment, is what it was.

That whole book is wish fulfillment! It definitely has some dark things - but it is certainly not a realistic novel about the most beautiful and brilliant yet charmingly aloof chemist in all the land.

She tears out her kitchen to make a chemistry lab for pete's sake! And has a talking dog!

I agree with any Elin Hildebrand book. It's all beach read chick lit type stuff but very well written. There's a reason she hits the top of the bestseller lists every time she writes a book.

I just read Lucy Checks In - really good.

It’s not out yet so maybe not in time for your vacation, but I’m excited for Jenny Jackson’s “Pineapple Street”. It looks fun! (Due in March.)

If you are at all interested in the British Royal family, I loved The Royal We. It's fun and entertaining.
