There just isn’t a market for that value in DC. It basically had to be someone that lives elsewhere who decides to move here and because there are no real properties at that price point they either buy this or build (or buy this while building).

I suspect given the limited number of $40m+ properties in the DMV, the fact that Snyder crossed the river to find a new one probably isn't too representative of anything in particular. He probably just read an article that NoVA is the preferred location for the DMV's nouveau riche and felt left out.
