Having a DH doesn't guarantee someone that acts like a protector to you.

I am fine with taking reasonable precautions but there’s a line where you’re holding yourself hostage to very, very small risks. I just can’t live like that. I’m not going to be constantly in fear just to reduce my risk from .0000002 to .0000001
“Hostage?” Are you always this dramatic.
You’re on my doorstep. I don’t know you. I don’t answer. You go away. I go on with my day. No “hostages” here.![]()
This. Not getting the drama or outrage. No one is obligated to open their door to strangers.

Anonymous wrote:I use my doorbell camera. If it’s someone I know and/or am expecting, I open the door. If it’s a stranger soliciting or something, I don’t. That’s part safety and part I don’t want to waste my time telling the millionth landscaper that no, I don’t need your services.

My teenaged daughter was appalled by this - she said, "They can hear us!! They know we're in here!" I had to tell her it didn't matter. Just because we're home doesn't mean we're obligated to open the door.
Kids are mostly (and shockingly!) unprepared to go away to college. They’re easy targets for assaults.

Only open if we are expecting someone. Otherwise, there is no point.
MIL jumps at the door and the phone. She did not grow up in the city. LOL.

So you WANT to buy a magazine subscription or decide to accept Jesus as your savior?
I occasionally get the religious people or the sales people, I just politely decline and close the door. More often it’s a neighbor or a delivery. Probably most often it’s a neighbor kid.
