There are three engineering types of programs for Wheaton students
-The "magnet" - highly competitive application-based Wheaton PLTW Engineering and Biomed that's actually two programs. This is the program with the Ivy-bound students people were talking about above.
-The academies. These are for regular students and you just choose a track, no application. There's an Engineering Academy and also a Bioscience one and Infotech.
-The joint programs with Edison, which is known as the high school of technology. They have career readiness programs in things like network operations and engineering. You do apply and kids are selected by lottery. It is presumably for kids who are not college bound but there are Wheaton/Edison kids who do the program and go to 4- year colleges.

I’m a teacher at Wheaton. While not teacher in the magnet department, I feel like we have a strong magnet program. Really nice kids. One of my students got a full ride to Harvard a few years ago.

Wheaton has a partnership with Edison (campus is next-door). Edison is for trade-based programs like auto mechanic, hospitality, etc.

At Wheaton, each kid has the same requirements for graduation BUT chooses a completer program:
-Global Studies (2 credits of World Language)
-Edison (4-9 credits)
-Engineering Academy (5 credits)
-Bioscience Academy (4 credits)
-The Academy of Information Technology (4 credits—including research or internship)

Hope that helps clarify. I’ve been at Wheaton for years and have seen many changes. I couldn’t say enough good things about the school. Great teachers and kids.

Is OP talking about PLTW criteria-based magnet that is similar in caliber to Blair or some academy programs at Wheaton or one of the career programs that is in partnership with Einstein?

Wait magnet results are out? I thought they did them all at once and in the spring.
