I think a lot of the comments are negative because we are assuming it was antimask and most of us are sick of those people. But imagine if it were a protest of a sexist dress code? Or a racist one? If it were my kid I would be proud of them and encourage them to tell their side of the story. Write about it as their main essay even.

The main issue for OP's kid seems to be she regrets whatever he did, or recognizes that it comes across badly.

No. Schools don't report these things to colleges. It's upto the student to do that. I'd talk to a college admissions counselor if this can be leveraged strategically in the application process. If not, don't bother reporting. Given his GPA, I don't think you'll be targeting top schools anyways..

I've known kids who cheated on tests (part of a cheating ring), get penalized by the school but got into top schools. Obviously they didn't report it.

NP here and I’m not an expert at all on college admissions but if this was about masks I would be upfront and explain in an essay. I can’t see how it would hurt him unless he’s applying to schools in this area.

My relatives are all over the country and very liberal and couldn’t believe how long we were required to wear masks in our area. Their lives were back to normal and kids were going to school mask free that entire year. I bet a lot of colleges look at protesting a mask mandate as a positive. And no, I’m not referring to only Liberty.

Your kid must have strong political convictions to get suspended four times. S/he should has lots of thoughts about it that could be put into an essay.

I call troll. Otherwise, you are a terrible parent. One suspension for a “political statement.” Questionable parenting. 4? Total fail. You are the parent here. Your child shouldn’t be in this position as it will most likely affect admissions. Hope whatever stupid statement your kid was trying yo make was worth it…
