Joel is a motivational speaker. His sermons are like the "power of positive speaking" plus Jesus. I realize that what he is saying is not theologically sound, but I sometimes listen to him when I need a boost. I am otherwise a thoughtful, fairly liberal Methodist who opposes the prosperity Gospel, but Joel is my secret shame.

If you want to buy his crap more power to you. However, given he doesn't even pass out water in catastrophes i'd think you would support Mattress Mack instead. At least he cares unlike Osteen who only cares about $.

He makes millions off of his followers. He takes their money and makes them feel good.

I am sorry that happened to you. I hope you have been able to heal from your abuse. I hope your stepfather was jailed and punished for what he did to you.

That is what I was asking. I don't know how this thread turned into anything else with that being said it's a shame churchs are now known and spoken about more for child abuse than teaching the word of god. But why does anyone have to risk their kids for mortalities these days any way? Most church services are online these days, also people can bring their kids to church and keep their children with them if they are that worried about child abuse happening. But using child abuse as a reason not to take your kids to church or even watching services online isn't a valid excuse to keep your children from the teachings if that is what you want for them.
