Dear RM Community,
The purpose of this message is to make you aware that at approximately 12:50 p.m. we moved into a lockdown due to a report of a student seeing an individual brandish a gun on the exterior of the building. We immediately secured the building and contacted the Rockville City Police Department. In collaboration with the police department, at approximately 1:15 p.m. we moved to a shelter in place and students remained in their 5th period class out of an abundance of caution. Students will be dismissed from 5th period at the regularly scheduled time and there is additional police presence on site. After school activities are cancelled, however our home basketball games will be played as scheduled. Additional information will be provided.
Thank you,

This is pretty good, detailed info! Maybe MCPS is learning from its mistakes....
Great job leaving out what is publicly known. This was the second time these two men were at Richard Montgomery High School today. They arrived in a car and a truck and ran off into the woods. They weren't apprehended.
Thanks for clarifying. I was wondering about this.
Were the two men students from Gaithersburg HS? Or is that just a rumor?

If this is true, then doesn't that mean they know who the kids are and can hold them accountable?

Definitely a bit stressful for the kids. My kid was peppering me with questions last night, but parents didn’t get any more info than the kids.
My 14 yr old DD told me that when they went on lockdown, lights were turned off, and everyone hid (or tried to), and several girls were crying, including DD. She said they were pretty scared because they didn't know what was going on.
She also told me that some kids don't seem to understand the words "keep quiet", as they were talking in not a quiet whisper. The teacher had to keep telling the kids to be quiet, but some of the kids just wouldn't listen.
If this had been a situation where a shooter was walking the halls listening for people, that class would've been targeted.
Please remind your kids to take lockdowns seriously and follow the teacher's instructions.
