Wow, that seems really odd. I would wonder why she was so intent on your sibling signing off- was she hiding something? Did you check the accounting carefully before signing?

Is there any recourse if the beneficiaries find the executor has done something wrong but they’ve already signed off on the informal accounting?

True, but there’s the aspect of one sibling not willing to just sign off on the paperwork to give up their right to see the details of how the executor is handling the probate process.


I mean yeah that’s a very common story in the T&E world. People go a little nuts when it comes to estate issues.


Yep, and it’s hard to tell sometimes who is nuts- the executor or the beneficiaries? And if one is doing something incorrectly, you either have to react or lose money, one way or the other.

OP, just hire an appraiser she agrees on and trusts. It is a good idea anyway and not that expensive compared to the overall assets. Then there will be no question.
