They don't give a rat's ass about grades because there aren't any at New College. They aren't into standardized tests or jumping through hoops. They are intellectual, curious, and often pioneers. Oh, and their parties are legendary and weird and the stuff of Hillsdale student and faculty nightmares. This won't be a small change for them, it will be a slap in the face.
And now it will be conservative and experimental. If students want a school with a liberal outlook, perhaps a public college in Florida was a risky choice.

New College is the honors college of Florida, and its progressive education and approach to life is on the verge of being squashed by DeSantis and his cronies.
Sad.
Do you live in Florida? Do you have any affiliation to UF? No to both, so
why do you care? You’re just trolling politically outside of the political forum.
OP here. No I no longer live in Florida. Yes, I have an affiliation. There are actually a number of New College alumni in this area.

If you do not admit that liberals have taken over colleges across US, you are delusional and do not live in reality. Same thing for news media. Everything needs something to balance in search for truth.

This. Zero chance of getting tenure if you are openly republican - even a Mitt Romney style republican. Sorry but DeSantis was totally correct about covid and is getting this right, too.

Good for him. Why should 99% of American universities be liberal?
Because most intelligent people want nothing to do with today's "conservative" movement.
Most of Florida voters said the opposite. That's why DeSantis is re-elected with a huge margin including historically Democrat counties. The liberals only live in echo chambers like most of the colleges and news media where only one conforming voice is allowed. Forbidding even a debate that Covid-19 may be leaked from a lab is one example how dangerous the one voice society has become. The cancel culture is now everywhere.

The present student body is shocked and depressed, she said, and trying to figure out the best ways to respond. Maybe the school will appeal to some as PPs have suggested, but according to my niece, it does not appeal to the students who are there now and, in fact, disgusts them.
Cool story, she should transfer then.
