I have a dog AND a child. The child often ends up in the dog bed while playing. I discourage it because the dog bed has dog fur and sweat but DC calls it the best pillow ever! New clean dog beds are basically slightly cheaper kids bean bags

Very thoughtful that she got something special for your kids to be comfortable. Maybe not what you expected but visiting is a good time to try something new.
