Just guessing, but q2 has the half days for Thanksgiving which don't end up being normal instructional time, and days are lost around Christmas with extra kids out and more "fun" activities, and likely snow days in January. So there's a bit of a built in bumper?

On first glance this looks reasonable! No crazy early start, no crazy long Xmas break. I was hoping for one that was similar to what we currently have and this looks close.

It sounds like these three professional days will be counted as instructional days. PA does this in that they have a few days where teachers have professional development but they still count as instructional days for students. In this case, one day would be designated as a professional day for each of the three school levels. They would offer instructional/enrichment opportunities (optional it seems) for students at that level to engage in that day while teachers plan. On the two days when your school level isn't involved, regular instruction would take place. Not sure why they're spread out like this. Seems like you could accomplish it all on one day, but whatever. At least they count as instructional days and don't drag out the calendar.

I didn't really follow what they were saying about the three days marked PD/I. It sounded like one would be for ES, one for MS, and one for HS? And what would the other schools be doing on those days, having regular instruction?
