I’m laughing at all the answers saying that Arlington is more like Bethesda or Chevy Chase than like Silver Spring. No, just no. South Arlington is still Arlington whether you like it or not—and it’s not like Bethesda or Chevy Chase at all. Even Northern Arlington’s schools have higher FARMS rates than the vast majority of Bethesda schools. Silver Spring and Arlington are more or less the same. The only difference is that Arlington is a little more expensive and also segregates people of different socio-economic statuses very strongly, unlike Silver Spring, which is far more integrated economically. If Silver Spring segregated all its affluent people on one side of town and the poor on the other side, then it would resemble Arlington to a tee. Nothing against Arlington. It’s one of two places in Virginia I could tolerate living in (the other being Alexandria), but it’s just not Bethesda and especially not Chevy Chase. There’s nothing wrong with that either. Silver Spring is also a great place.

Blair is the best if you only look at the magnet program. If your kid gets into that magnet program, it is absolutely worth going. But outside the magnet program, Blair is a wonderful school but definitely not the best in Moco.

Blair also has the test-entry Communication Arts Program which is excellent.

Takoma Park and SS don't have anything comparable to Old Town Alexandria

These places are different for sure.

Old Town Alexandria house prices are $$$. Takoma Park is $$. Silver Spring is $$ and $.

In terms of housing stock (think 100-year-old bungalows), Takoma Park is very similar to parts of Arlington. Comparing Arlington to Chevy Chase is a real stretch.

Arlington was more like silver spring even a decade ago.

Marshall High (Pimmit Hills) is #4 in Northern Virginia. Ranked #5 in whole state. It's the opposite of a low ranked school.
