Not the OP, but DH booked separate rooms for this trip. 19 y.o. DS gave him an earful after our last trip when he and his older sister were squeezed on a smaller than a queen couch. They slept in the same bed for years when we traveled but they are now simply too old and big for it.
That’s amazing your 19 year old could pay for their own room!
Seriously. Pretty weird flex that you have a bratty and disrespectful teen.
lol
People may have a variety of things to say about DS, but bratty and disrespectful are not on the list. We can easily afford the second room. DH just prefers for us to all be in one.
Our kids are now young adults and a separate room - or larger suite - makes sense, especially as we can afford it.
FWIW, DS spent the last four or five years creating beds out of sofa cushions but the hotel last summer did not have that option.
Respectful teens don't "give their father an earful." The money is not the point.

Today, is my anniversary. Husband had the day off. I’m cooking tomorrow and we had nice dinner reservations tonight. Luckily only one guest coming over.
What did he do? He started work on the master bedroom closet renovation. Why today of all days? Only his brain knows the answer. I don’t even have a bed to sleep on. I canceled reservations and I’m moping on the swing set.
Just a vent and commiseration. I’ll try to be thankful for him tomorrow.
Why did you cancel reservations?
Because I hoped it would give him enough time to get our room in order for at least sleeping. Plus I’m pretty pissed? Disappointed? Frustrated?
Why are you upset? Why can’t you use your bed? I think it sounds great that he’s renovating the closet. What are you sad and disappointed about?
