I do not belong to the NRA.

It has been more than 30 years since I did any lobbying, and even then, it was lobbying for direct and indirect aid to Haiti.

I do believe in the 2nd amendment just as every POTUS also professes to do.

What is true is that mass shootings are practically an everyday occurrence these days. Prior to deinstitutionalization, they were much more rare.

There will always be mentally unstable, violent people - they have existed since the beginning of time. Bringing back mental institutions might help some, but people cannot be forced to accept treatment - witness the large numbers of mentally ill homeless who refuse shelter and treatment. The very least we can do is keep guns out of their hands.

For the severely mentally ill, homeless people, your answer is:

I agree completely - but would these people be compelled to enter institutional care? How? Involuntary commitment is not a simple thing.
