After the age of 5 or 6 I would miss my kid's bday for a work conference.

This cannot be real. How old is your dc? But at any age, a birthday is a birthday - happens every year. If it were her wedding, college graduation, life saving surgery. Team boyfriend!

OP, are you going to come back and give us an update? Unanimous DCUM opinions are pretty rare. Hopefully you’ve done some soul searching and have apologized to your BF.

He should not miss the conference.

Yes, he should go to the conference. If it is so important for you that he be at the birthday party, you should move it to the weekend before or the weekend after the conference.

Kids sometimes have birthday parties weeks away from their birthday. YATA and you should apologize.

My husband has had to be out of town for work during my birthday and our kids birthdays several times, it would never occur to me to ask him to delay a work trip because of that.

Celebrate her birthday the day before!

I was going to say this. I have been out of town form my own daughter's birthday several times. It happens.

The fat that OP pitched a fit about this is not great. The fact that she threatened to *break up* and make her partner of several years move out over it is outright insanity. If I were him, I'd be running for the hills.

Completely bonkers behavior. If OP isn’t a troll, this probably isn’t the first thing she’s blown way out of proportion, but if this guy is smart, it will be the last.

A birthday is not a huge deal, whereas a business conference is quite important for work. You can all just celebrate the weekend afterward. Even for a father and his actual daughter, if he happened to have a conference on his kid’s birthday that’s just life sometimes and not outrageous.

Oh yes she does.

This cannot be serious because it is so beyond reasonable it's hard to fathom. He absolutely should not miss work for your kid's birthday, whether he is the the bio dad or not, and he should think hard about his relationship with you because you sound extremely needy and controlling.

I wonder if OP is actually the BF in real life, writing to get perspective. I don’t think anybody can be that clueless unless they are very unwell, emotionally.

My sister got married on my son’s birthday. We just switched the birthday celebration that year to a few days later.
Gotta be a troll!

Wow. Really hope you’re a troll. I wouldn’t miss a day of a work conference for anyone’s birthday, even my own. It’s one day that can be celebrated any time. As a pp said, YTA.
