One of the parents buys a new car and the teen gets our old car.

DD1 - got my wife's 2013 Subaru Forester in 2018
DS1 - got my 2012 Honda Pilot in 2020
DS2 - got the Honda Pilot when his brother went to college
DD2 - will probably get my wife's 2018 Subaru in spring of 2023 but we will see

The Chevy Trailblazer has the most new car sale to teenagers of any car made.

Has a ton of safety features and a low price that is lower than most used cars.

I think parents realize 26k gets you a crappy used Japanese car so why not buy a new trailblazer with a full warranty and zero miles.

I am considering this. I currently drive a few year old CRV with more mileage. I may have teen buy it from me and get something newer for myself. We are still a couple years out from this but I like the idea of them learning to drive on this car as well.

Giving DS my DH’s 2015 Volvo sedan. More expensive than I’d have thought we’d do but steel cage and tons of safety features + teen boy makes the most sense to us and we are fortunate that we can afford it.

Another swim parent here who is about to get up at 3:45sm to take my kid and his friend to practice for the next two mornings.

He can have whatever the heck he wants within reason.

He hates my huge SUV. My husband offered to buy him a 2 yr old BMW X3 and he said, “Can’t I have a Honda Civic?”

I’m not letting him get a small sedan - too many large SUVs out there and I’m scared for him in a little car if he collided with them.

I’ll get him a smaller SUV or my mom’s 6 yr old SUV if she’s buying a new one.

I got in an accident in my new Honda Civic the first week I drove it. I think brand new cars for teens are ridiculous.

Cars have had great safety features for several years. I don’t think they are better drivers without the technology. Anything that saves my child is worth it.

Another swim parent here counting the hours until DS can drive himself to practice and dryland!! He will get DH's 2019 Tucson. DH is going to buy a car, mostly likely a Santa Fe.
