This sounds like anxiety. I would get a ring camera if it gives you peace of mind. And be friendly with your neighbors if you aren't already. I would totally let my neighbors know if I saw someone messing with their house. Lots of people WFH these days and are around.

Off topic, but you don't need so much stuff for a 2-week trip! Unless you're going on a ski trip or similar that requires bulky special equipment.

Duh.

This is what I ALWAYS do when getting a Lyft/Uber from my house.

And I've done this with 2 months' worth of luggage for a family of 4. So it can be done.

Wait, you are telling me that someone at the post office reads those cards? That would be a first for me.
Not them, but people do buy that information from the people that work there. And not all letter carriers are employees. A lot of areas use contract people. So it is not like they would lose a pension for taking a bribe.

We will have so much luggage!

I always walk a block away. You both take what you can carry, put on ground on corner a block away. You stay with luggage spouse shuttles back and forth till you have everything. It will take 15 min tops. I think the 15 min is worth the peace of mind.

Great. I’d never thought of that. Now I have something new to worry about for our next family vacation.

Drive yourself. Park yourself. You are in control that way.

Nobody we know well enough to ask to take us as we are leaving mid-day during a week day. I wouldn’t ask a friend to do this and have to figure out work arrangements. This is our burden.

An UBER would be around $40 plus tip.

A reputable car service, $95 plus tip. We would Uber back home for the same $40 plus tip mentioned above.

Secure parking would only be $200 total.

Are we being completely ridiculous? I’m so fearful of being across the globe and our house being broken into because we foolishly and willingly let someone in on the fact that our house would be empty. Does anyone else share this fear?

No. I don't share this fear. If you are so fearful, pay the higher price or drive yourself and park at the airport and call it a day.

Everyone at the airline knows anyway. Massive ring of thieves running a scam where checkin people at the airport look for families going on long/large trips. They pull your address and feed it to their associates. Then the associates go break in and rob you blind. Best to never leave your house.

Whenever I leave my house and there are workers around or something I always wave to “someone in the window” or say something on my phone like “I’m just leaving now and taking the car. Kevin’s staying home so come on by and drop it off with him and I’ll get it later. He’ll be home all day.”
