I read this to my kid recently (with a handful of substitutions and elisions where the book uses racial slurs) and I had not realized how good it was. I really enjoyed it.
How old is your kid (and how did you substitute)? I am thinking of just that. I was going to show him the disney movie, but thought that he (5) might be ready for chapter books.
