I’m a Dem that voted Hogan twice and this is not true. I would absolutely vote for Hogan again in any election, Senate, President, whatever. Raskin is one of the best public servants in this nation. He’s also incredibly kind, compassionate, decent, humble and brilliant human being.

If Hogan ran for president, I would be really interested in knowing who his running mate is and what is his position on various policies. I would not just dismiss him based on his party.

I am a staunch East Coast liberal elite democrat and I have always voted for Hogan for Governor for Maryland because I like the balance he brought to the table, and kept the ultra-leftists in MoCo in check.

I voted for the Democratic ticket very reluctantly this time because basically the democratic party fielded absolutely C grade candidates. They won only because there was no one of Hogan's caliber from GOP who could be the GOP candidate. The bar was sooooooo low for GOP, but then they are always able to field psychopaths like Trump and go lower. So there is that.

Hogan like a true patriot had warned against the GOP candidate for MD governor and frankly, I trust Hogan. If Hogan runs for President, he will get a lot of votes from Marylander Democrats and he very certainly will get votes from middle of road Republicans. Not every person in the country subscribes to the crazy of MAGA.

Also, Hogan was governor while the national economy was booming, O’Malley was governor during a catastrophic recession where people lost enormous wealth and that impacted the state’s coffers greatly. You can’t just pretend there is no context. Hogan is kind of a nothingburger, and his stance on abortion will probably doom him anyway.

Did a Republican president not start a war under false pretences and directly lead to the death of one million Iraqi civilians, cost trillions of dollars, and devastate the lives of thousands of veterans? If you claim to care about veterans so much, that much at least should concern you. Did anything happen to the president who started that war? No, and many of the people involved in that administration are still part of the Republican Party today. Our country still spends trillions of dollars on a bloated inefficient military that could not even take out the Taliban, and line the pockets of defense contractors with OUR money, largely because of Republicans and their pro military propaganda.

Instead of universal healthcare, school lunches for children, paid leave, or any number of domestic policies that could save people’s lives, we have the military industrial complex. This is just one of the Republican Party’s many faults, before they abandoned democracy entirely.

Perhaps you and corporate media do not want to hold the Republican Party accountable for policies that caused devastation throughout the world but I decline to see the world through rose colored glasses and until we have real accountability in this country for war crimes undertaken in OUR name, I will continue to issue these unpleasant reminders.

John Sarbanes wouldn't want to run for his father's former seat?

I imagine he has thought about it but the truth is that Sarbanes has been mailing it in for a long, long time. It is only for the grace of outrageous gerryanders that he still has his seat. So he might consider a run but I doubt he’d go past exploring the possibility.

Hogan for 2 reasons.

Reason 1 - Hogan had enough widespread appeal in Maryland to win as Governor TWICE in a typically blue state.

Reason 2 - Raskin is too far to the left for any moderates in the state outside his current House district to vote for.

Raskin might have issues state wide esiecuslly in baltimore and pg county but he would likely still win

Hogan could beat Raskin in a competitive state-wide race. There is no chance that Hogan or any other Republican will win a Congressional seat in MD (other than District 1) unless there was a significant majority for the Democrats, that wasn't likely to be lost, in the particular chamber that they were competing for. MD is not going to hand a majority to the Republicans anytime in the near future for a Congressional seat (again, excepting District 1).
