What are we going to do? My DD is graduating this year and we are moving out of state so we won’t have to deal with the awful crime.
Don't let the doors hit you on the way out
DP.. So, what happens if all UMC leave MoCo?
Doesn't it get dull posting the same thing over and over and over and over, year upon year? We know, the sky is falling.
DP but the economic outlook is not improving, it is going the other way. The county is effectively becoming an active living retirement community with large and growing poverty. This is not a recipe for success.
That’s my concern, too. I feel we would be in a different position if people were aware and educated.
We need to attract business. A tax base. As it is, we actively repel the very opportunities we need. Our county council will be busy issuing proclamations while neighboring counties are attracting businesses and creating income.
That's not what people care about. They want to create little bandaid programs that aid vulnerable communities so that they feel like (mostly white) saviors. Nobody has the intelligence, vision, or spine to really create the economic framework we need to provide a robust economy that in turn provides real career opportunities to people from very diverse walks of life.

Anonymous wrote:Step 1: Stop putting your hopes on the general election. Only Democrats win County Executive in MoCo. The time to make a change was in the primary.
Step 2: Identify the issues that actually impact you personally, and speak to your elected officials about those issues.
Step 3: If it is so bad that you'd rather live in a more "balanced" jurisdiction, then move there. Personally I like places run by people who don't hate transgender people and support abortion rights, so I'm pretty thankful to be living here.
Anonymous wrote:The only thing you can do to limit or minimize the potential harm is to engage them frequently on focus on fiscal responsibility. You need to both write your officials frequently and encourage others to do so as well to remind them that fiscal responsibility is critically important for the future of this county. In local politics, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, so you need to be active and make sure others are as well providing frequent reminders.

You have no idea. Please don't whine too much, lest a real left-wing group gain power one day. And if that day comes, you might actually have affordable medications, great healthcare that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and no guns on the street. You might like it.
I agree 100% with what you said. I too am European. However, I am older now and a lot more moderate. If Republicans could put forward moderate candidates and change their stance on social issues (abortion and gun control being the two big ones), I would vote Republican even though I have only ever voted Democrat up until now. If I liked the socialist system in Europe, I would have stayed in Europe. I did not come to the US to pay 50%+ of my income in taxes and get crime and crappy schools in return.

This is part of the problem and for those that dont think rich folks won't leave, they will and they are. My neighborhood has had 4 houses turn over. Schools and crime were the reasons they left. 2 to Virginia and 2 to Frederick. We are leaving in 2 years due to being directly impacted by crime. Twice. I hate it. I wish we could leave sooner. We contribute a lot to the tax base. We care for our properties. We are environmentally conscious and educated. We eat out a lot and spend $$$ at local businesses. If the county doesn't worry about people like me leaving they are more delusional than I thought.

No one’s leaving.
Indeed. Where would you go anyway?
The obvious choice is to move to Virginia to be closer to your job.

Nice try but Elrich governs NOTHING like a well organized German Burgermeister. Just look at the cronyism! Look at the declining schools. Look at the groveling he does to the unions. And just wait for your property tax bill. I don’t think he has attracted a single large business to relocate to Moco in four years. That’s damning. He wouldn’t last governing a single day in a well run German town. European Socialism of the Scandinavian or German variety is a thing to behold - but you pay Herr Elric too high a compliment.
Try again. Given all republicans have accepted NAZISM and FASCiSM. MD did great yesterday!

believe me, even the doors do hit me, I really don't care. you may ok with your tax dollars being used in wasteful ways, but I wasn't.
There is no oversight which is why a couple county employees were caught stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars that we wont ever get back. The millions of dollars given to developers to build affordable housing that still isn't affordable. The amount of time coming up with ridiculous legislation and creating solutions to problems that don't exist. The schools, where my daughter is a straight A student yet she shouldn't be! so come on, you really want 4 years of this? Dig deep in your research and you will be just as surprised and frustrated as I was uncovering how tax dollars are used.
