CAP definitely has a ninth period -- required 9th and 10th grade, optional after that. The question I thought was about those outside CAP and magnet. I think they can too.
So in 9th CAP kids take (questions in bold):
Honors English (with CAP kids)
Honors History (with CAP kids)
Photog/Scriptwriting (with CAP kids)
Drama (with CAP kids)
Math
Science
PE (if they take health in the summer, can they take PE during the summer too or do they get a free period for one quarter just for health?)
Elective
Do they get a 2nd Elective, or do they have to choose between a World Language and an "other" like Art or Music?
HS students need to take 2 semesters of PE and 2 of Health to graduate. They have 2 elective periods in 9th - most will take World Language for 1. The other could be PE, Art, Tech, etc.
CAP courses fulfill the high school fine arts requirement. SMAC courses fulfill the high school tech requirements. For CAP, that means you don't have to take orchestra/choir, etc. to graduate, but, as for all students, if you want to take arts, it's hard to fit it in, given the PE and Health requirements. The one-year Health requirement drives me crazy! What a useless way to spend time at the expense of fine arts.

I'm still not clear: can kids take a language AND an elective like band or digital art while in CAP?
PP, basically you have 2 slots for any extra classes after you fill in the 4 CAP classes, math and science. That's 6 classes, plus 2 electives and one period for lunch; that adds up to 9 periods. So if you want to take band and world language both for 4 years, you'll be filling in your entire schedule except for I think social studies senior year (you only need 3 years of social studies). So that year, you could fulfill your tech requirement and take health during one of the summers, and voila you're done. Or you don't take band all 4 years. Do marching band instead, which you could do as an after school activity and not take it as a class.

Humanities/writing definitely better in CAP, especially now that all 9th and 10th grade students take Honors English at Blair (and many other high schools) so there is no differentiation. I care a lot about writing, and I’m pleased with how CAP prepared my kid for college. There is no reason to think that 9th grade APUSH at another school is better than the CAP history offering. It’s all about the cohort and the teacher (that’s always true, from elementary through grad school), and CAP has that.
Is CAP mainly for creative-focused girls? what about boys who are creative but may also like computer science - is it still a good fit?
Thoughts?
CAP has all kinds of students, I wouldn’t limit the program to say all the girls are creative focused. All the boys aren’t creative focused either. My son is sporty, loves the sciences, and has made friends in and out of CAP.
