That’s correct.

Can’t the end user - the restaurant - not choose the tip function? I find it hard to believe that is built into the software.

Not all.of us make $16. I earn $12 per hour in Philadelphia. My job isn't tipped. At the end of the year, I may get tipped by residents in the building, but that's it.

I think I am a very generous person in general & provide a tip when necessary.

Definitely at a restaurant but also for the hairdresser as well as the taxi.

But I find it unnecessary to leave a tip for certain businesses where I am not served at all.

If I am feeling extra generous I may tip a bit extra.

It if a babysitter did an excellent job of watching my kids - I usually add on a tip in addition to the hourly wage.

I recently stopped tipping for food I pick up. It was hard for me, but it's gotten easier.
I get paid by the hour, I have no job security or benefits, no pension, and no one tips me.
I will still tip 20% for sit-down meal service and I tip my esthetician and hair stylist.

I have never been a generous tipper. I don’t need some wait staff to think I am rich or generous. They forget about me as soon as I leave the restaurant.

If I go to a full service restaurant and all the wait staff does is bring water, food and then the bill which is about the service you get these days I tip 15% and bad service 10%. And look at that the restaurant remains standing and staffed

+1
And it's always something entirely generic and/or sketchy: Would you like to donate to Children's Causes? Would you like to donate to help our military? Yeah, right. I'm just certain the money actually goes to charitable causes.

I hate the tip thing. I just send my husband to pick up takeout since he never tips at the counter and doesn't think twice about it.

Same! Nope I'm not tipping you an extra $1 to pour my drip coffee for which you already charge $4. Sure, the workers don't set the prices, but they are free to walk out and not work for a living wage. Not my problem. Charge $6 for a coffee, don't hit me up for a tip, and pay your workers a livable wage and I will frequent your shop more.

If I get carryout, I pay with cash. I think it is dumb to be asked to provide a tip to someone who hands you a bag of food. I am not going to get guilted into giving a tip because the screen suggests that I should.

The other recent scam restaurants are pulling is automatically adding a 20% tip to the bill and then asking you to provide even more of a tip. Not doing it.

I work with many hard working people -- cleaners, window washers, painters, trash haulers. They have a set fee, but I see how hard they work. If I am going to tip anyone extra it would be them. Not someone who hands me a bag of food.

I'm all for tipping (generously) at sit-down restaurants. I go out to eat and factor that in as a cost of the outing.

But at a weekend farmer's market? Where I'm picking out my own apples? Or paying for overpriced apple cider donuts? Yes I don't have to buy those things, but I accept the listed price and make an agreement by purchasing.

But I will always choose "no tip" unless someone does something out of their way to assist me.

I've never tipped anywhere but a full service restaurant and a salon. Somehow I'm still here.

I've also never given a holiday gift to my postal worker or trah person. They still come.

If I buy a sandwich, I'm just going to pay for the sandwich at the register and leave. It's gotten out of hand.

Yes yes yes!! Let’s normalize not tipping in situations where tipping isn’t warranted.

Unpopular opinion on DCUM, but I strongly believe the appropriate way to express my view that tipping is has gotten out of hand (both in terms of % expected and range of services expecting a tip) is to tip what and when I think is right, NOT by tipping 30% and 'writing to my congressman'.
