Because then people will have to realize that voting for the council and county exec who are allowing this to happen was the wrong thing and they would never admit that.

The county council has nothing to do with this. You sound insane.

Are you saying that local politicians have no influence over crime? I disagree. Crime can increase or decrease as a direct result of public policies that are out in place by our local politicians.

You do truly get what you vote for.

People who have food, housing and opportunity do not commit crime. When you have those things there is less crime. Yes I am saying our council has not negatively affected these things beyond what has happened with a global pandemic and inflations caused by corporate greed.

Criminals in jail also tend to not commit armed robbery

This. When locked up they can maybe steal tobacco products from another inmate. Inmate justice for theft is severe.

Hopefully none of the hard working Apple employees were physically harmed.

I don't think the mental harm ever goes away from being in an armed robbery with a gun in your face.

Montgomery County offers food, housing and plenty of opportunities to anyone who want to avail themselves of these services. Yet, there has still been an increase in violent crime. Please explain how giving away more free things will help alleviate the crime issue.

Please post some affordable housing.

Anyone? lol... can you post a job that anybody can get that pays a living wage?

Nobody has suggested giving away anything for free, your damaged brain and inability to think has read into my post to say people are asking for free stuff, nobody is asking for free stuff.

Here's a list of affordable housing:
https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/DHCA/housing/singlefamily/mpdu/programrental.html

MoCo has a $15/hour minimum wage.

Tell me you have never had to apply for this program without telling me ... go ahead, apply and put down you make $15/hr and tell me which apartment complex approves you to rent.

Most jobs (unskilled) start at around $20 per hour.

Unchecked robberies and theft simply cost you and me more money and unchecked robberies and theft is inflationary.

Retailers cover the shrinkage (theft) by increasing prices.

Retail theft should concern every honest tax paying citizen who works a job.

People are getting plenty of calories in the US. The criminals want easy money from the loot from smash and grab and armed robberies.

This form Paul Wagner on NBC4 from this morning

Montgomery County police investigating a shooting in downtown Silver Spring at Fenton and Elllsworth. A bullet smashed through the window of this car police are examining. Another bullet went through a window at the Cava. No one hit.

I guess it's not the theft that really worries me, but the gun. How can we be harder on gun usage?

Interesting that the theft doesn’t bother you.

No they both bother me. I don't know why we can't seem to agree to mitigate this in the short term with immediate consequences. Just when I have this terrified reaction I realize it's about the gun.

Well, the car jacking at Rockville Town Center a few weeks ago was at around 11:30am and I barely saw much about it on the news. The high school was on lockdown. But kids from RM go hang have lunch at Town Center often. They caught the DC teens who did it near Rockville Pike/Gude Drive later.

I guess it is the new normal.

The teens carjacking is an epidemic. I think it’s because teens want a car, and they’re hard to steal now. They want a car with a key, and that means carjacking someone. It’s so dumb and they have no plan except to ride around and then ditch the car. They’re too stupid to realize how easy it is for someone to get killed. We need the car companies to come up with technologies to prevent this ASAP. There needs to be a fast way to disable and recover the car. Possibly also we need dash cams, although I was on a carjacking jury where the stupid kids took their own pictures of themselves in the stolen car, then posted them to social media. So the level of idiocy is extremely high.

I think it’s darker than that … teens carjack cars as part of an organized crime ring, so the car can be sold or used in a crime. sometimes joyriding, but my money is on organized crime for teens coming from DC to carjack in Rockville.

Correct. Stupid kids joyriding is rare. Most crimes have a financial incentive.
And I agree that criminal activity in Montgomery County is influenced by the complete mess that is DC right now. This is why we need federal gun control.

DC already has strong gun control laws. Please explain how that has led to an increase in crime.

Crime is up in DC, it bleeds into Montgomery county. Crime also comes from within the county. Yet we keep electing the same type of leader ship over and over again.

The CE and Council cut 25 police officer positions just for sh*ts and giggles. There was no reason to do so. But "defund the police" was all the rage. Jawando in particular thinks a smaller leaner police force is what we need, because he has absolutely no clue how policing works. The Council has enacted something like 20 different police reform requirements that weren't really needed, which has completely paralyzed the department as they try to implement them with inadequate funding and staffing. And that leaves exactly zero time to be innovative or forward thinking like they used to be. And surrounding jurisdictions are passing us by with much better, more efficient crime control methods.

Look, even DC's crime is down overall. Ours is not.
https://mpdc.dc.gov/node/197622

Jawa do is truly the worst. A huge hypocrite and an idiot politician.
