yes, the "gets more northern the further south you go" comments don't account for inland South/Central Florida which is VERY southern. Well, Orlando less so but once you get 15-20 miles out of Orlando you feel Deep South for sure. Sebring, Lakeland, Clewiston, Lake Wales, Arcadia, etc....all feel like rural Georgia or something. These are also prime "Florida man" areas![]()

It was turning blue, but the Cubans took a sharp turn to the right last election. Those forecasts of Florida being solidly dem have been revised - I think the blue wave they expected from formerly ineligible to vote felons and newcomers didn’t materialize as much as they expected, and the Cuban shift caught them by surprise. It will be red for a while longer at least.
Cubans were always red because of the Cuban adjustment act Cubans have “open borders” and “others” don’t. They have long been told in Spanish TV that Democrats are socialists like Castro and will bring more “Mexicans”.
If you wanna get shot call a Cuban a Mexican, they are super racist against “other” Hispanics.
and the Mexicans in places like the Rio Grande Valley in Texas that have swung sharply to the right in recent elections- are they racist against...themselves? lol
DP, but Christianity and machismo can help explain the rightward shift in Mexican Americans. As for the Cubans, I agree that they think they are superior to other Hispanics.
always someone else's fault, huh?

This.
BS. Born and raised in FL. It depends. Along the bigger cities, it feels less southern. But outside of these areas, it is a truly southern city. And I mean southern in terms of architecture, landscape, cuisine, etc. People need to read more Florida history. It was a territory that was overtaken by Spain and France in the past. It has rich native american and spanish culture/remnants and now a good portion of latino culture in SoFL.
It has underwater caves, a coral reef, amazing and unparallel beaches, and so much native wildlife. If you don't like it, stay away!

South Florida has a Cuban feel, in a really awesome way.
