How can you tell whether parents or non-parents are posting?

I have a kid in the upper school. They have very advanced classes for very advanced kids. Lots of Nysmith students go here. My kid is sporty and academically average, they have classes and sports for him. Some kids are artsy, they have an amazing arts, dance, and theatre program. Their robotics program is top notch, they beat colleges in competitions. Their latin department is the best in the region.

They have students from Maryland, Alexandria, DC, all over Northern Va. It's exceptionally diverse which matches the diversity of the areas the students come from.

Do I care how the school came to be? No. We all live in America right? We all know how this country came to be. It's not stopping you from living here.

I care how FH came to be. I live in this country because, like most people who are born, raised and educated here, I chose the path of least resistance. However, avoiding FH is VERY easy. It’s extremely simple to avoid paying $48,000 annually for an aggressively mediocre segregation academy. I would be embarrassed to send my children to FH for free. I can’t imagine paying for that humiliation.

But to each his or her own.

You sound hysterical.
Therapy helps.

You sound like the Flint Hill parents that give the school a bad name.

I’ve only seen normal responses on this thread from FH parents. And a bunch of snarky, self righteous ones from the rest.

No therapy needed. I just avoid having my children educated in segregation academies. Result: peace and harmony.

There are many historically shameful things that happened in Va …. And yet we still live here.

They don’t. 98% of the privates around when FH was established were just as racist and some even more so.

While our child didn't ultimately select FH, we were definitely impressed with what they had to offer. You should visit and talk to people actually connected to the school rather than dismiss it out of hand based on a bunch of keyboard jockeys who fetishize a "Big 3" that doesn't really exist. Realistically, there are a good dozen schools or more in the area that are high quality. Within that group, the key is to identify the right fit since they all differ in key ways (religious vs. not, single sex vs. coed, athletic vs. not, etc.).

You should definitely go look at the school You will see for yourself that there are much better schools to choose from in the DMV.

Very few real FHS parents bother with DCUM. There is a lot of talk about how much better DC privates are. Fine but many FHS parents live far from DC practically speaking.
My DC went to FHS got an excellent education had a great 6 years there. Flew through college. Great experience overall. There is really no comparison to FCPS. We found FCPS to be a very slow overwhelmed school system. It was a huge relief to leave.
