The only VA school comparable to U of R is W & M.

It is a regional school. If you want to stay in the greater Richmond to Charlotte corridor, then it is great. But it is not a national school in reputation. Sure, that could change, but "elite" at this juncture is a reach.
I don't disagree that it's a regional school, but the bolded in the original quite is just silly. There were more people in my graduating class (nearly three decades ago) from NJ than Virginia. That's been true, or nearly true, since then.
Only 17% came from VA so not really a regional school.

The biggest reason they aren't comparable for Virginians is W&M is in state tuition and Richmond is not. They are more comparable in that sense for an OOS applicant.
Well the biggest reason is it’s ranked 17 and WM is ranked in the 40’s.

Richmond has a ton of financial resources (a $3+ billion endowment) that should allow it to continue to improve too. It is a school I'd be bullish on moving forward and those of you who went there will likely see your degrees look even better!

Honestly, you should be more focused on where you kid will feel comfortable and be successful. These schools are so expensive. If your kid gets good grades at any school, they will be successful. Don't waste your money on a "name."

I suspect they are talking about African American and referring to Williamsburg and Richmond rather than the enrollment. Not sure why they think that is relevant.
Especially since Richmond is in an affluent suburb, not city center.
