I'm not the pp you quoted, but you can refuse to pay your kid's tuition/expenses.

And you don't know that your daughter has "NEVER" been hazed. She's not going to tell you.

You may not realize this, but there are some kids that are paying for their own college by taking out loans and working to pay their expenses without parental say or involvement.

I would like to see the stats of students in greek life who are paying for their own college and sorority/fraternity dues. I'm guessing that number is very, very low.

I definitely realize it happens. I paid for my college myself. I don't think it's common on DCUM though.

My kids were not interested in Greek life or being in a college where majority of the social life was around Greek life.

They knew of girls who were raped because they got very drunk or roofied in frat parties, and this happened in their college where Greek life was not very widespread. I think Greek life attracts a lot of deviants who prey on others.

You are really naive if you think you know the policies on most campuses with regard to hazing.

She has NEVER been hazed!

I was in a sorority at a state school not that long ago and they were very strict about hazing. One fraternity lost their charter for making pledges march. Of course hazing happens but it's not all sororities/fraternities. The most I was forced to do during pledge season was memorize facts about our founders, learn songs and make lots of posters for the sisters.

My not very large college is on the list for a pledge hazing death that happened in the early 2000s. The student was in my accounting class. The fraternity was suspended and the chapter has not been permitted to activate again at the school. It’s been close to 20 years and I’m glad they’re still banned.

It's a bonding experience and a right of passage without it , it's not anything to talk about to get in

They are way more likely to lack impulse control and engage in a mob-mentality behavior than girls are. They are also more likely to think they are invincible. Its important for them to know this.

Not all of the hazing involves alcohol. See above messages regarding branding. There's also paddling, sleep depravation, intense physical exertion, sexual assault/humiliation, etc.

My kid worked her butt off to pay for her sorority. We actually communicate. I know for a fact she hasn’t been hazed.
