Not in my kids school. Why is it so hard to understand that your worldview is NOT everyone elses? I posted that my kid was top 2%. He did byo apply to ivies as he wouldn’t have gotten in. The top ranked kid got into an Ivy but chose a lesser school for a full ride. The number 2 kid went to UVA. My DS was number 6, he’s at UVA. No one else in the top ten went anywhere better than UVA, in fact come to think of it most of them did go to UVA or chose a full ride at a lesser program. Your world is not everyone else’s. This is in Loudoun.

I was under the impression that if you are top 10% of your class, you will likely get into UVA. We are zoned for Langley. I know ~20 kids went to UVA from Langley this year. ~50 out of 500 kids gaining acceptance sounds right.

It’s probably very close. Even if kids want to attend Ivies, everyone knows those schools are crapshoots. UVA is frequently a backup for even the brightest kids in NOVA.

This, most of the top 5% is going to apply to UVA for no other reason than as a safety.

As I just demonstrated this is not true. Plus what on earth are you talking about? We are talking about how hard it is to get into UVA; nobody but the absolute top student is applying there as a safety. You need to move on to another thread.
