This plus many schools only offer merit/honors to early action applicants. There is no downside to EA that I can see.

I don't get why anyone applies early to these schools that they already know they'll be admitted to. If you don't get into the schools you want, these schools will still be there a few months from now when you realize you need to find somewhere to go. Getting admitted is just a matter of doing the paperwork. Why are kids afraid they won't get in anywhere when there are literally hundreds of schools that will take just about anybody?

Anyone receive any merit aids yet, for ASU/Pitt?

Loyola Chicago is "rolling" but I am not sure when they actually start sending decisions, and think they require transcripts from the school. DC applied early August.

Most Rolling schools will ask for self reported grades - either through Common App, Coalition App or the SRAR website. You don’t need official transcripts for these schools unless you get admitted and go there. Most of them will not require letters of recommendation either - so you don’t need to worry about that. In fact, many will say that they don’t even look at LORs. Just get the application in ASAP and have the Common App or one major essay finished by beginning of August if possible.

I highly suggest that you order one official transcript sent or picked up by you/DC at the end of Junior year that includes final grades for Junior year. You will need this to enter the self reported transcript and it must match the official transcript exactly once applications and the SRAR opens over summer. It’s very hard to get these over the summer at a lot of schools when admin is not working much. FYI

For those who haven't been through the process, your student doesn't need to wait until the transcripts are available to submit their application. You can get everything done on the student-side as soon as the applications open. As mentioned above - some schools require the official transcript before the application is considered "final" - others will review with self-reported grades and verify later.

To answer the question about do students really want to go the rolling admission schools, yes mine is excited about Pitt. She wants a city school not far from home with a big football program.

Because it has become so competitive to get into the popular schools that most college advisers will tell you and your student to apply to a roll g ad
Idiom school early on so your child has the psychological advantage of entering senior year with at least one acceptance under their belt. That’s why we applied to Pitt sight unseen as early as possible. DS got in but the. Could relax and focus on his SCEA application to Princeton (did not get in) and EAs to flagships. He got in and went to UVA
