To me it's definitely a boy's name. I like it fine. I think of it as very Irish/Scottish, like Patrick or Angus

Rory is an Irish boy's name. It wasn't used for females until the late 1960s. When Robert F Kennedy was assassinated in 1968, his wife Ethel was pregnant. Robert and Ethel had agreed on the name of the child if it were male: Rory. They hadn't yet agreed on the name of the child if it was a girl. When Ethel gave birth to a daughter after her husband's death, she decided to name her Rory, despite the fact it was a girl.

Suddenly, Rory became a popular girl's name in the US. Before 1968, nobody would have named a girl Rory.

Well that’s nice for your kid—my kid couldn’t say her Rs until she was 7 so Rory would be Wohy and basically unintelligible. Not that that’s a good reason not to use the name, but it’s not the easiest to pronounce.

We have a DD Rosemary that goes by Rory and there also a boy Rory in her preschool class a few years ago.

I do know a grown male Rory too.

I am Irish so I think of it as a male name first. I love it because it’s not overly traditional (what I call “dead presidents names”) but it’s also not trendy name. Just in between - very few boy names are neutral like that!

Disagree. Jayden, Cayden and all other made up names are cringe. This is a legit name with Irish roots. Plus, DCUM for girls is always in favor of more ethnic names for girls.
