We really disliked Kilmer and it’s sad to see that more families will have to deal with the lack of anything approaching a strong administration there again.

We had a great experience at Kilmer. Better than elementary. The teachers and teams were very attentive. I don't know about the principals. You don't see them that much as a parent.

DC got a lot of support at Kilmer from the teachers. Had very little interaction with administration but DC loved the principal. Kilmer was a great experience. Worried that the principal is leaving as my younger child enters Kilmer.

It is not the school’s job to parent your child.
In all fairness, it is the school's job to enforce discipline and some schools don't do this well. Not saying girl drama usually rises to that level, but it could in some instances. Did FCPS finally put monitors in the hallways of all middle and high schools?
The PP was talking about not finding a group of friends and some drama, didn't say anything that suggested discipline issues were involved. Not sure why you brought that into the discussion.

How exactly do you think any principal could help with that? Was your daughter involved in activities, preferably some outside of school too? That seemed to help keep the drama to a minimum. Diversify friends in middle school.

Maybe don't put all the pressure on schools to teach your children how to avoid social drama and peer pressure?
Exactly. What is a principal going to do about that? Instead, encourage your daughter to participate in activities at school, build another group of friends outside school through volunteering or some other activity, and strategize about how not to get drawn into/escalate drama.

Another KMS parent here. I don't know which team your DD is with, my DS knew Amy Miller from the start, as well as all of the APs. Academics are well-run, many in-depth discussions, good assignments, and they work hard to make kids feel included.
In math and science all of the 8th grade AAP classes were one quarter behind at the start of the 4th quarter. They were finishing up 2nd quarter units at the end of the 3rd quarter.
And? Did it set them back from being admitted to Ivy League schools?

The school did very well in Science Olympiad last year at least. Their afterschool programs seem well run.
